When Sony announced the PlayStation 3D Monitor at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2011, people were a little surprised. Yes, there has been plenty of speculation running around the internet ever since they got a patent in 2010 for stereoscopic multiplayer display, but this was still a little more awesome than we expected.

The monitor will allow for two split-screening players to see a full screen via 3D glasses. The images overlap and the glasses can see only the image meant for it.

This allows a whole world of a cheaper gaming. At only $499 for the monitor, Resistance 3, pair of glasses, and a 6′ HDMI cord, this is a guaranteed sell-out.

The PlayStation 3D Display is already available for preorder, although the release date is still a little hazy. We’ll keep you posted as information comes up, but it should be soon, since the PS Vita is already available for preorder.
