About PlayStation 3D Monitor

Sony is onto something with the newest edition to the electronic world, the PlayStation 3D Monitor.

Their aim was to provide a more affordable way for consumers to get into 3D gaming, and they plan to release about 100 new 3D titles next year. This 24” display has the same 3D technology they used on the Vaio laptops, which is superb.

The best feature of the PS 3D Display is the split screening. Usually a split-screener can only see half of the screen (top or bottom, can be toggled), but the 3D Display allows for full-screen viewing via the 3D glasses.

This is done by layering the images, much like the way 3D is done. Sony did patent the stereoscopic multiplayer display in 2010, and this is the end result. It’s also great for sport games like Madden, so you can’t see your opponent’s plays.

While no one has confirmed or denied it, many consumers are waiting for something larger than a 24” display. I know my gaming TV is 42”, which I must say is a lot. I’d be happy with a 32” for gaming, but this is still perfect for smaller spaces, such as dorm rooms, gaming rooms, and, well, cluttered rooms.

Sony is releasing the PS 3D Monitor during the end of 2011, near holiday season, which is the same as the PS Vita release date. While it isn’t available for pre-order yet, the PS 3D Monitor will be offered as a bundle with Resistance 3, 6’ HDMI, 1 pair glasses ($70 retail), and the display for only $499.
